I just want to say that I’ve seen stronger outrage at Neymar reacting childishly to dirty fouls than when Antoine Griezmann did black face (and then said “calm down guys” instead of realizing why it was offensive and apologizing) and honestly people need to stop making excuses for white footballers while also using any little thing as an excuse to hate colored footballers

we all know hypothetically about the horrors of living in trumps america. we’ve all seen the same stories, we know how dangerous it is to be brown, that your whole life can fall down in an instant. we know this. I thought I knew this more than most, with my boyfriend being mexican. in the back of my mind I’ve had this anxiety for months, knowing what could happen - and today it did.

we were stopped by what looked to be a cop car in what I thought was an ordinary police stop (scary enough already) but it turned out to be anything but. behind the car were three black vehicles with tinted windows, literally like you see in the movies. me and my boyfriend are both fresh out of teenager years, and there was just two of us against several armed government officers.

this was literally the single most terrifying experience of my life. they told us to put our hands up and all I could think was that they’re gonna tell him to step out of the car, they’re gonna kill him in front of me, and I’m gonna have to call his family and tell them that I saw their son die and that he’s never coming home.
they laughed in my boyfriend’s face, asking several times for his name and jiggling the door handle and held us for what felt, to me, like a small and hellish eternity. I’m sure most people can understand what a traffic stop can be like as a brown person in america - i feel like i don’t need to say much more here and honestly just trying to describe everything that happens makes me want to throw up so I’m not going to.

eventually they let us go and somehow it only gets worse from there.
we found out that my boyfriend’s father had been picked up by ICE. we believe at present that the point of the stop was to stop me and my boyfriend from driving past the daycare down the road (where his father was dropping off his 3 yr old son at) so that we wouldn’t be able to see what they were doing to his dad. the fact that they know our schedules so well means they must have been following us and watching us for a while. i would say that i’m paranoid except that honestly, this is entirely justified.

currently, his dad is being held by ICE. because it’s immigration court, not criminal court, he is not entitled to free legal representation. we need at least $5000 for lawyer, not even including the bond. my boyfriend and I both work but there is no way for us to be able to raise this kind of money on such short notice. my boyfriend is basically in shock right now, as I think is very reasonable, and this entire situation feels beyond hopeless. the only chance we have of keeping his family together is through this lawyer, and through asking for help from others.

i know you are all tired from everything you see on the news. i know that there are many stories like ours. but please, this is ours. this is the man I love. this is his father. this is our future together. I never thought this would actually happen and it honestly still feels like a surreal nightmare but it has happened, and we cannot get out of it ourselves.

in 2017 dior copied the design of a traditional romanian coat from the county of bihor and sold it for 30,000 euro, giving no credit to the local artisans. in response, romanian fashion magazine beau monde helped the community create their own brand, bihor couture, which sells the original coat, handmade to order, for 500 euro a piece. they also sell other traditional clothing and jewelry for much more accessible prices (5-45 euro). they’ve been hugely successful so far, and currently have enough pre-orders to cover 4.5 years of work, with 100% of the profits returning to the community.

it’s surprisingly common for big name fashion designers like dior, gaultier, tom ford and altuzarra to copy traditional romanian clothing and sell it for ridiculous prices, with minimal original input, while giving nothing back to the community where these designs originated. it’s completely unfair that a big name designer can just steal so much hard work and misuse it to make huge profits.

please support bihor couture, if not by ordering one of their products, then by spreading the news around. it’s really awesome to see a small community fight back against cultural appropriation so successfully. i hope they carry on for a long time!

the show is written and directed by janet mock, a black trans woman, who is the first trans woman of color to write for a tv series in history. pose also has the ‘largest cast of trans actors in regular series roles,’ having nearly the whole main cast being consisted of black trans actresses (plus it has a 96% on rotten tomatoes!)

as a result the show really is able to create trans characters in such a heartfelt and personal way that ive never seen before on screen. please give this show the views it deserves!!

The European Parliament is passing a new Copyright Directive.
Article 13 #CensorshipMachine will impose widespread censorship of all the content we share online. Art, fanfiction, parodies, remixes, mashups, memes, etc.. Anything that you do not hold the rights over will be taken down.
Article 13 would force all online platforms to police and prevent the uploading of copyrighted content, or make people seek the correct licenses to post that content. Internet platforms hosting large amounts of user-uploaded content must monitor user behaviour and filter their contributions to identify and prevent copyright infringement.
Such filters will be mandatory for platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and Instagram, but also much smaller websites.

This doesn’t just affect Europe. The content creators you love are going to be in hot water for sharing their art and writing with you online. Any and all content that doesn’t belong to us will be filtered. Even memes are at risk, as the person who took the original photo may want to file complaints against any platform that allows it to be used without permission. But it goes even further than that.
Last Tuesday (19th June 2018) a group of more than 70 people who have played important roles in building the internet and developing it (Tim Berners-Lee, Vincent Cerf, Jimmy Wales, Mitchell Baker…) into what it is today addressed an open letter to the members of the European Parliament:
“As creators ourselves, we share the concern that there should be a fair distribution of revenues from the online use of copyright works, that benefits creators, publishers, and platforms alike.
But Article 13 is not the right way to achieve this. By requiring Internet platforms to perform automatic filtering all of the content that their users upload, Article 13 takes an unprecedented step towards the transformation of the Internet from an open platform for sharing and innovation, into a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users. […] The damage that this may do to the free and open Internet as we know it is hard to predict, but in our opinions could be substantial.”

Unlike most of the cast the dude was already super accomplished, doing amazing work before hand. The MCU was never the “pinnacle or big time” of Mackie’s career. This is true for basically every black character in the MCU.
RDJ was also accomplished, but he did need the MCU because no one in Hollywood was giving him a chance post-rehab.
Chris Evans (who I love more than air don’t fight me) was also doing steady work, but Hollywood basically treated him like a dumb underwear model with great abs until captain america. They panned both fantastic fours he was in and Evans had no interest in being a comic book movie again until mcu begged. Anyway now thanks to captain america and Chris’ great acting he can do whatever he wants.
Mackie’s career was not made or resurrected by the MCU. Mackie was in two best picture Oscar films two years in a row. He graduated from Juilliard and then never took a break!!! Without the MCU, Anthony is in smash hits and/or critically acclaimed movies EVERY YEAR. (I would make the list but I don’t want this to be research paper. Just go to imdb lol.)
And when he’s not in the best films he’s on stage killing the game.
And for those who think he’s closed minded, please remember he’s played a gay man, on stage and in cinema. That may not seem revolutionary to most but unless you’re woefully ignorant about black culture, you should know most straight black men would not dare play a gay character in fear of having their masculinity questioned. Mackie couldn’t care less about that.
Mackie plays the falcon because he was a superhero fanboy growing up and he loved the idea of playing a superhero. Not to mention being the falcon would give him the opportunity to hang with his some of his best friends he’s already worked with, ie. Chris Evans.
So if you bump into Anthony Mackie in real life, don’t say something rude or stupid to him as if he would be starving or nowhere without the MCU. Educate yourself lol.

if you’ve been reading my posts lately, you will know that as of Monday, my maternal grandmother who will be 64 on the 30th has been hospitalized for heart failure (she has a pacemaker) and lung issues and as of today, she’s been released into our (me and my mother’s) care. as of yesterday, Wednesday, while i was in the hospital with my grandmother, i learned that my paternal great grandmother passed away of stomach cancer at the age of 84.

i’ve made the decision to take time off of work for the next 2 weeks to care for my grandmother who will be staying with us and help make funeral preparations for my great grandmother with my dad’s family.

i would really appreciate any help as far making a portion of rent ($700) that i will not be able to contribute to since i will be looking after her. it was really hard for me to make this decision but we’re literally all we have and i already didn’t get to say goodbye to my great grandmother and it would destroy me if something happened to my grandmother bc i chose work over her health and comfort.

What I would recommend instead is make your own art and design inspired by her. She taught underprivileged teenagers art in the years leading up to her death. Her class was multicultural due to Mexico accepting refugees from WW2 including Jewish people(she herself was half German Jewish). She was very pro DIY and I think would’ve been flattered by fan art that’s not sold for money.
